Richard
A. Goren practices in the area of complex commercial litigation,
including business fraud, securities law, derivative claims,
unfair and deceptive business practice claims, complex real
estate litigation, bankruptcy litigation and complex tax and
corporate finance issues. In addition, he regularly
counsels officers and directors of corporations regarding
their rights and responsibilities, including duty of care,
mergers and Sarbanes-Oxley. He is an expert on Native
American law and has testified before the United States Senate
on various Native American issues. Mr. Goren has been
named as one of the Super Lawyers in Massachusetts for the
past three years.
Among Mr. Goren's successes are the following:
- Obtained a $10 million verdict in a shareholders derivative suit against officers of a corporation as a result of payment of excessive executive compensation.
- Successfully defended an investment advisor on a $40 million claim based on investment advice.
- Secured a $1 million libel judgment on behalf of a securities firm wrongly accused of securities fraud.
- Successfuly defended a real estate developer in a multi-million dollar lawsuit claiming misrepresentation, breach of contract and violation of the Consumer Protection Act.
- Obtained a $1 million recovery on a counterclaim against a bank on theories of lender liability in response to suit by bank on guaranty.
Mr.
Goren earned a J.D. degree cum laude from Suffolk
University Law School and an L.L.M. in taxation from Boston
University School of Law. He is admitted to practice
in the state and federal courts in Massachusetts, the United
States Tax Court, and the United States Courts of Appeals
for the First and Second Circuits.
